I wanted to share a quick thought or two on the Internal Revenue scandal.
1) Was anyone really surprised by this? The IRS has been abusive to individuals and organizations for decades now. Imagine coming home and receiving an unexpected letter in the mail from the IRS. How would you feel? The answer sums up the culture that the IRS has created and the federal government has supported.
2) This scandal is going to become much larger. I believe we are going to find out that the IRS has targeted other organizations (this information has already started to come out), individuals with certain political leanings (the author of this article has a personal story that will be shared at a later date), and self-employed people.
3) Thank you Lois Lerner for not resigning. I think she should stay on paid administrative leave. What? Am I crazy? Nope. As long as this happens, the IRS story will not go away and in fact, become more inflamed. As long as we are paying Lois Lerner, the reform of the IRS is inevitable. It's a small price to pay to keep people involved in this story. Personally, yes, I believe she should be fired, but her sticking around shows the incompetence of the organization.
